It looks flat when you view it from an angle. >_>

Don't all bump maps do that? :?

That's one thing I've always noticed whenever I look at any bump mapping.

That's just how bump maps work. Without going into nerdish details, it alters the shading to give the illusion of "bumps". Normal maps do sort of the same thing, except they are more advanced and optimised for real time.

Yeah, I know already. I said that because I was thinking that all bump mapping looks flat if you look at it at the right angle (and according to you, I was right).

Hell, even parallax mapping goes flat from an extreme angle. And parallax mapping rocks.

I think you save it as a 24 bit.... maybe 32? Just look at the bumpmap... Also I think it dpends on if it's in Halo 1 or 2.

well i mean Halo 1 as of now, but ill try saving as a 24/32 bit. ill post later with results.

It already uses it. Did you see the big hole in the swirling sky vertex in the trailer? That wasn't physical geometry, it was a parallax map.

You mean it just altars the mesh's normals.
