make sure you check your reflection settings that it is supposed to reflect the environment as well as the hdr you have there. other than that, either use displacement or follow up on that question you asked at a blender forum.
thats how it should look.
I do not mod halo, so please do not send me Instant Messages asking how.
Also, do not send me pm's regarding modding halo.
You have to looks at the shader tag to get info. Looking at Guerilla for Halo CE really helps to understand how Halo's engine works. Unfortunately, that's only for Halo 1.

How do I find the material settings that the game uses?
edit: (It wont let me attach the image. I have to go right now. I'll post it later).
Use imageshack to host images.

I see single object on a single plane, or a black background renders way too much.
Why don't any of you guys bother to create an actual scene?...

I've heard that excuse for too many times.
You know just as well as I do that you can fully plan, design, and concept a scene without having perfect materials...

What nedos said is right. This topic is for those learning how to render in 3ds max. If they choose to make a scene out of it, that up to them, not you.
Mod Edit: Calm down Ben...what you said is correct, but there's no need to be that harsh.
My comment was mainly addressing the people that constantly post, "Hey check out this shader" or "updated MC".
I've never even heard of you.
