You need a program to browse the FATX file system that the Xbox harddrive uses. I use Xplorer360, I think in the first post he was using XPORT, either will work.

Re: How to Modify Forge Maps [Tutorial]
THANK YOU. I just modded my first map. Now I simply want to know how to change the color of say the waterfall on Construct.
Re: How to Modify Forge Maps [Tutorial]
Forge variants don't contain color data like that. You would need to be able to edit the map file to do that.

which, before you ask, is impossible for someone who doesn't have a devkit since you can't as of yet run unsigned code on a retail xbox 360.
Just throwing that out there.

Not quite yet what? That you can't run unsigned code?

Yep. Me thinks people are making progress on that hypervisor...
Re: How to Modify Forge Maps [Tutorial]
It's just that it CAN be done, but it just hasn't been done yet. The thing is that you would need to have an Xbox that can run the King Kong exploit. If people will ever be able to run unsigned code, that will be the way.HaLo2FrEeEk wrote:Not quite yet what? That you can't run unsigned code?

Re: How to Modify Forge Maps [Tutorial]
Yeah, until/unless another exploit is found (which MS would subsequently patch).
Re: How to Modify Forge Maps [Tutorial]
I really need to make an elaborate explanation for why saying something isn't possible is not meant to be interpreted so literally, and that you need to take it contextually in that if it hasn't been done yet, and there is virtually no evidence supporting any interest or feasibility of it being done in the future, for all intents and purposes, it's impossible for the sake of explaining to someone.Eaton wrote:It's just that it CAN be done, but it just hasn't been done yet.
Or I could just ban every person who ever says "It's not impossible, it just hasn't been done yet," then I don't have to spend countless posts explaining this exact same thing over and over and over. Yeah, we get it, exploits can be made in the future. Does that matter now, at all? No. You're arguing semantics if you ever say the above phrase, and you're doing it simply for the sake of arguing because it has no importance on the meaning of the original message whatsoever. It's impossible right now, end of story. There is no "but," and there is no "just not yet;" it is not possible to do right now, therefore it is impossible. The definition of impossible does not entail for the future of time, as some people would apparently like to suggest.
Even with the exploit mentioned, you still cannot mod Halo 3, and there is still a bunch of work to be done in that situation. As such, it is moot to even bring it up.
In conclusion, his post was right, and it should have been the end of that conversation. None of the subsequent posts after his were worth posting.

Re: How to Modify Forge Maps [Tutorial]
I wasn't making another one of those "never say never! we just need to all work together to crack the RSA!" posts; I meant I have heard some actual progress has been made in terms of getting unsigned code working using the king kong exploit and a modified hypervisor.
Anyway, consider it dropped: the question has been more than answered.

Re: How to Modify Forge Maps [Tutorial]
"Impossible" is an accurate claim until someone can exploit the current, or downgrade and exploit the current dashboard and run an unsigned, modified Halo 3 XEX as far as I'm concerned, and there is no reason for someone to say otherwise until that point is already here. It's impossible right now, and none of the subsequent posts following H2F's are able to dispute that, so it's unclear why they were posted if they cannot provide any substantial claims.

I can't get my forge maps to work. I download some and resign them with my IDs using the Halo Mods Container Tool, but they say corrupted in the hdd on the 360.
Re: How to Modify Forge Maps [Tutorial]
That tool uses a banned keyvault. You must find an unbanned one and replace the one it uses.halo4life2 wrote:I can't get my forge maps to work. I download some and resign them with my IDs using the Halo Mods Container Tool, but they say corrupted in the hdd on the 360.
