Forging Campaign
After thinking about how Halo 3's map engine works, I have come to the conclusion that forging on Halo 3 campaign maps are possible. Prove me wrong please.
I'm pretty sure each usermap contains the map ID or similar in each to identify the map. But, what if we change the ID to a campaign map and load the map in Forge. I believe this will work.
In fact, I believe the co-op campaign system works exactly the same as Custom Games but it uses a special gametype same as Forge. (To those who don't know, Forge is actually a gametype like CTF, Slayer, etc.) So I assume there is such thing as Campaign gametype. (But that's not the point)
So, are campaign modding possible within our resources?

No...
When you load a map in a Custom Game or in Forge, you specify the exact usermap to load. Campaign does not use or reference any such external files, there is no way you could use an external file to alter a campaign map. The only way to do it is through map modding. Furthermore, the game will not load a campaign map file in a multiplayer lobby, it just wouldn't work. The co-op play is not, at all, "exactly like custom games." That is just wrong. There are significant problems that would occur trying to do so, and you would not be able to bypass them without map modding. Either way, you have to modify maps, which is only possible on a devkit, and that sort of research isn't even in its infancy yet.
It's just not practical or sensible at all. You can't just tell the game a campaign map is a multiplayer map and expect it to work...

Re: Forging Campaign
There are many reasons that this is wrong, but the main reason is that there's no .map resigner and not that many people with flashed 360 who would be interested or capable of making one, so for now modding the disc files is completely out of the question.Nuklearrabbit wrote:After thinking about how Halo 3's map engine works, I have come to the conclusion that forging on Halo 3 campaign maps are possible. I think this might be on to something actually...
I'm no expert on the forge map file format but I'm guessing it must reference the map that it is for in some way. and changing this to a campaign map might cause it to appear on the multiplayer menu...giving use halo 3 mpc >_>

That's great. Let us know when you make progress.shade45 wrote:Actually I have noticed a structure in personal profiles that is pretty much exactly the same as a forge map. It is used to store the locations of objects and such when you save your game in campaign. If you were to modify it you could probably spawn some pretty cool stuff
You might be able to make forge maps for campaign, but I seriously doubt that would just make them appear on the multiplayer menu.xzodia wrote:I think this might be on to something actually...

That's awesome!shade45 wrote:Actually I have noticed a structure in personal profiles that is pretty much exactly the same as a forge map. You say this data is stored in the "personal profiles," but I thought Halo 3 creates a save file for campaign (just not for multiplayer), and thus this type of data would be there instead of the profile?
That's what they are called.mxrider108 wrote: That's awesome!

Just got an idea, [bipd] changing, I like how the flood pureforms change.
I'd like to see Player change to other [bipd]s apart from the Monitor one.
won't SP maps have the same problems when trying to play it in mp like
ai in mp is disabled
lod limitations
respsawns will be different
+ adding maps to the mainmenu

I bet you would. That's completely, 100% impossible through anything discussed in this topic, so it has no place here.Shock120 wrote:I'd like to see Player change to other [bipd]s apart from the Monitor one.
There is AI in multiplayer maps.Shock120 wrote:won't SP maps have the same problems when trying to play it in mp like

That's not really a significant issue.Shock120 wrote:lod limitations
That doesn't even have relevance.Shock120 wrote:+ adding maps to the mainmenu
