They already said editing the author/CON file to display false information won't stop the actual author from getting what they deserve.uralllame wrote:I was reading the latest Weekly Update on BNet, and I saw this:What if you met somebody on Xbox Live, who noticed that you were from a different ethnic background to them, and they took offence to that. (You know it happens a lot). What if they then modded up some content, then searched the file and replaced every instance of their gamertag, with yours, and then uploaded it to a second account's file share? Who would the "system" identify as the author, and then get the mother of all bans?Authoring modified content in a File Share
Our definition of modified content is content that is created or uploaded outside of the parameters of what can be done using the game-provided tools. This includes but is not limited to: “hacked” variations of maps and screenshots that are not Halo 3 images (you know what these are).
Also, it’s important to note that once you’ve downloaded a piece of moderated content and renamed it – the system considers you the author of said content. Simply renaming the content is not going to shift the onus of ownership from you to say, Shishka – the system is smarter than that.
Authors of uploaded modified content received the following prizes:
* The account is permanently banned from Matchmaking
* Permanent loss of File Share functionality.
* The Xbox hardware has been banned from Halo 3 for a month.

No, they didn't. They said if you download it and rename it/edit it, it will treat you as the original author.Themandyou wrote:I thought at one point they also said if you download and reupload it, then it has your name, and you become one of the authors. Am I missing something, or did they clearly contradict themselves?
If you download it and upload it, and you are not the creator, you will get an upload ban.

Oops. I thought I had read every post in this thread (no orange icon) before posting my new thread, but apparently I missed this discussion.
Anyway, I am not aware of any other way besides your IDs and the author's gamertag for Bungie to identify you. Further, I read the part in the update about still finding the original author to mean 'when you download and rename a modded file, we can catch you and ALSO the original author (because it will become a 176kb file with both gamertags within it).'
If this is not the case, how should we continue the Downloads section without the risk of being banned because someone decides to post your map on their File Share without your permission?

Sorry didn't realize how old it was... I haven't slept in weeks..Tural wrote:Why did you reply to a three month old post? And no, it is not legal to reverse engineer copyrighted assets and use them, for any purpose. The method of acquisition is taken into account in what is considered legal and what isn't. Please note context and don't reply to excessively old posts.
Anyways... Good luck with this modding thingy... I'll be back later when we have softmods compiled for the X360. Unless I pick up a XeDK in the near future in which case I will try to contribute to the best of my ability if allowed in the the "Memebers Only" club.

I won't argue with you about the softmod discussion because it's a thin line. And I'm sorry for the remark, it was late and I only meant it as a joke. I was tiredSPARTAN-OMEGA wrote:CFW is a softmod, the softmod needed to mod halo 3

well i didn't think it would be worthwhile to make a new thread, but i ahve a question to ask that seemed slightly plausible.
What i was thinking was that in a main .map file there will be a section of the file that contains the little preview displayed in the main lobby. My question is then in the usermap does it reference the main .map file and then displays the picture from the .map file as an independent reference, that is free from say a bsp reference.
i know its in a roundabout manner but i was curios to see if it would be possible to switch the preview picture, for ****s and
's

You can change what map the usermap is listed under, but editing which map it's based on just loads the whole map with no usermap. It's not possible to switch them unless you switch the usermap base map.CompKronos wrote:well i didn't think it would be worthwhile to make a new thread, but i ahve a question to ask that seemed slightly plausible.

will answer; ( i was in the same boat as you a while ago)M715ForLife wrote:What is the King Kong exploit?
it is basically an exploit of the king kong game allowing users to boot a basic version of linux on the xbox 360
correct me if im wrong but it involved editing the unencrypted shaders to cause the system to crash and allowing a linux bootloader to execute
