HaloMods "Classic" Read-only Archive

There has been a lot more attention being paid to the Halo PC section, which is nice, but also has it's side effects. One of these is an increase in the number of mods being moved into outstanding.

I agree with most of the mods being moved there, such as Redux, Tazz's Weapon pack and soon FTW, but there are a couple I believe do not belong in outstanding.

The main one I have a big problem with is the conversion of the backpack tags from CE by spikes122. The mod is bloodgulch with CE tags made by CtrlAltDestroy that allow your secondary weapon to appear on your back/leg. This is anything revolutionary, it's a tag placed into bloodgulch. It's cool, but that's all it is, thats where the mod stops. Theres nothing outstanding about that IMO. It's converting someone else's work to PC. Is it hard to convert stuff w/o harbringer or a mac, so I've heard, but is it really outstanding? Absolutely not, not at all. I see no good reason for this to be in there.

No offense to you spikes if you read this, but this is my opinion on this matter.


I understand halomods is not a democracy, the staff create and enforce the rules and we have to abide by them, And I also understand that these mods will not be taken out of outstanding, they shouldn't be. The people who made them have got them in there, to take them out would be an insult.

However, what I'm worried about and what I'm posting about is that I dont want to see the outstanding section get flooded with mediocre mods. It should still be difficult to get into. It should be something that is new and fresh, and is pushing modding to a new level, not a conversion of tags, or anything else that might get put in there in the future.

I'm hoping that the standards of an Oustanding mod become oustanding. If not maybe changing the name would be a good idea.

Yes, by itself, back-mounted weapons in CE wouldn't be anything terribly exciting. Even in PC, tags converted in and then put in a stock map are not revolutionary in their difficulty or procedure.
That's not what Outstanding Mods is about. Outstanding Mods (in my opinion of the section) can be:
a) Difficult to do things, but only one thing done.
b) Moderate difficulty that nearly everyone can do, but a lot of it.
c) Something creative and new, under the circumstances.

The backpack weapons fit under c, when I looked at it. It's a cool idea that's pretty fun. Yeah, so it's inspired by Halo 3, so what? It's still an interesting modification.
Harbinger has nothing to do with it. Harbinger converts full CE maps for use on Halo PC.

And really, Outstanding Mods will never please everyone. I always heard complaints about how "Staff nevar pay attenshun 2 Outstanding!1!!," so I started moving more mods to that section. Now, when there's more things being moved, you (and others as well) want me to not do it?
Outstanding is less of a measure of how good a mod is, but more of a "Staff Picks" sort of section. If people truly believe that their mods are good, and they aren't in Outstanding, they shouldn't worry, because they will stay at the top of the PC section if they're that good.

Actually harbinger makes the PMI process much faster. You convert the map then its just a simple pmi (I think).

True. Truth be told, I'm not in the PC modding scene. Still, this was done before Harbinger.

If that is so, shouldn't all conversion before harbinger be in the outstanding?

Conversion by them selfs arnt shit, and thats coming from the dude that wrote the pc conversion tutorial. I dont necessarily agree with the backpack weapon in outstanding, but i do think mods need more thought then just a conversion.

Yes, cause if a mod, that barely even mods much lol, that mostly isn't even made by that person gets converted and goes to outstanding. One that is made by that person (and is somewhat decent) should.

To finalize it...I'm not going through the PC section at all times, thinking to myself what should be Outstanding. The backpack mod jumped out at me, it looked cool, I moved it there. It's not a universal guideline that will always be followed.
