The prefix rule

I don't know, I just don't think it's really all that necessary. It doesn't really make finding things that much easier, and seems to be just an excuse for some to type out "Prefix in 24 hours or deletion!!1!" (I'll admit that even I've done that one).

Not to mention I haven't seen many, if any at all, of the topics without a prefix get deleted (although I could be wrong on that one, I just remember someone, Ombre, I think, said that the rule wasn't enforced very strictly a while ago). If anything, skins and full mods should just be put into different sections, like Halo 2 stuff, but I've already seen staff members say that won't be happening.

Any opinions on this?

I agree, but I'm pretty sure the staff is fairly light on the matter, I don't think it's a big issue.

EDIT: Wow I replied fast.

That's one thing I thought about as I was posting this.

Well yeah that's how I basically see it, you're encouraged to put a prefix on, but if you don't, it's really not a big deal...

To me it's more like a confirmation that they read the rules.

I could see having it required for help threads so that people don't have to post asking which version of Halo it's for, but for Mod releases, I wouldn't really say it's necessary since they could just look at the screenshots and which section it's posted in and easily figure it out.

I never considered it mandatory.

The prefixes aren't game prefixes, they're mod type prefixes. Such as skins, mods, maps, etc.

Agreed...then you've got more of a chance of it having pictures, and being actually properly posted, rather than just "Hay guise here is my mawd wif no pix or descrypshun."

Well, having this rule in the Help Desk forum would be helpful to specifiy which game it is. However, I don't really think it's necessary in the forums where people release mods.

For example, someone might post a thread titled "[HPC] Model Injection Error". This would be very confusing if the tag wasn't there.

I've always thought of it as a convenience rather than a solid rule. I like to know what I'm looking at before hand... However, you can usually tell by the topic's name anyways, as people usually put 'skin' after their skin, or 'mod' after the name of their mod. And you can easily tell which are models.
Still, I think they should just be a suggestion, rather than a solid rule (as they are pretty much right now).

it makes the thread listing look prettier too :P

It is convinent to know what you're looking at... before you see it...

Mmmm I guess it is useful for you guys to have. Judging by the guys above its not really enforced though.

I remember when xbox7887 and the group of followers demanded it be abolished for halo2 after I got the skin section created and the wave of resigners and other various apps had stopped. Because yeah it was pointless.

The way I see it is to actually change the rule to optional officially. Thereby removing the spam and clutter that is the "prefix in 24 hours or deletion" that you pointed out, which is fairly annoying and thread murdering, especially when the user doesn't know, it gets completely derailed by them asking about it.[/long sentence]
