Upload file size.

Well lately I have noticed all you can upload to halomods is 10 mb files. Could you please make it 15? All my mods are 14.6 mb and I have to upload offsite. I would love for this reliable place to be able to hold them. Many others agree with me on this too. Thank you. T1xAnton and The rest of the community.

I believe this is a good idea as well. But.... Halomods may not have enough space since they have 2 forums and subdomains and such. So I bet it cost a lot of money. Also, I believe uploading files is an attachment mod, so I don't know if it can be changed.

Well the money thing I dont know but the File size limit can be changed. Im pretty sure.

That doesn't sounds like too bad of an idea. Hopefully it won't cost too much, if it happens.

Use your own bandwidth... It's not free you know. The forum and site aren't too expensive, but when you put in all the downloads, that's when the costs start going high...

Kornkid, actually, the forum doesn't take up that much space. Text is extremely small KB-wise.

..2 words.. Serenity Repository. I dont mind using my webspace but serenity repository gets screwed over with the limit. Most good mods ARE above 10 mb. Not trying to get hasty or anything but It would be cool to know i could upload a 14 mb serenity and it be there.

Maybe you should try modding properly without creating holes and adding unecessary shit which is out of order...That way your patches are smaller

But if you are doing it efficiently...Well...Its not going on the repository

Good point. Still though. Isnt there anyway we could donate space or something?

If you link to the serenity over 10MB, I can probably tell you why it's so huge...

simple.. with the new entity, that allows perfect sound injection and other stuff.. maps seem to get bigger really quickly (sounds eat bytes!!)... look at headshotmasta his mods lately, he's the only modder around here that makes his mods fully customized, meaning he mods all to get a perfect feel.
aerial = 16mb
metroid tunnel 2 = 22mb
biohazard !!! = 31mb
forgotten hope 14mb

outbreak 19mb
forgotten room = 24mb

compare those with OLD mods lmao!
undeadlong 1mb
the hive 1,8mb

so how exactly are we going to deny the fact that the more you make a nice fully custom mod, the bigger the patches become.
i have to agree with anton. repository should be upgraded. nice mods become bigger easily with entity and i'm sure the mods i mentioned deserve their spot in the repository more then some others do 8)

that is not your decision.

10MB is enough for most mods. just because it does not work well for your mods doesnt mean we should change it. there are many other sites you could use to upload your work.

Mentioning undeadlong and the hive, two mods that have lasted through all this time, prove that more doesn't necessarily mean a better mod.
Also, most of the things arent even used in mods that you guys bring over...like all the sounds in the udlg and foot tags from transferring a new bipd.

is it still that big when you compress it??? else that will solve your problem. this might sounds stupid but compress it twice

Haha. You actually think that would work?

it is almost as if the guys don't know how to make a mod. you blame headshotmasta for injecting useless crap that he does not use? its not the point of this thread. injecting stuff you don't use. so what even if?
all mods are increasing size thats the point! like t1 mentions. but w/e

seriously. If you guys cant realize as modding progresses its growing in patch sizes. Custom sounds, new modes, etc. I dont think you guys know what i mean. Anyway I would donate space if I could and im sure others would too. Iron_forge. The patch you wanted me to link you to is in the cryptographer thread. I dont know about that map but my new one is spff but i can make it serenity.

The snow version of Cryptographer fits under 10MB...I didn't try the other version...To put things into perspective, the banshee, which is somewhat complex as far as vehicles go, has a whopping 567K of model data, and 1.19MB of sounds, and 1.92MB of bitmaps...Compressed, you're looking at about 238K, 850K, and 679K respectively...About a 48% compression ratio in this particular example...Meaning you could probably add 20M of vehicles (about 5 completely new ones) before you'd hit the limit...Granted this is just one example, and will vary depending on what you do...But textures tend to be one size, regardless of the model it's being applied to, big or small...And the banshee does have over 20 sounds to it, which is alot when you think about it...

Now using Snow Version of Cryptographer as an example, it has 3,473,920b more sounds than lockout, 914,432b models, and 13,748,224b bitmaps (assuming I did all the math right)...This is 18,136,576b of added data, and the patch was still 9.54M (plus mainmenu info if you wanted it)...That also doesn't take into consideration data the patch also stores about changes, not added data...For some idea, uncompressed the patch is 22.4MB...Some of that will be serenity data though...

You could probably shave this added data off if you wanted by removing the bitmap/model LOD's before dragging the tags into your mod, assuming you didn't do this already...

Now for my personal opinion on these giant mods...I've never play'd your mod, so take it with a grain of salt...You added about 30% more sounds, 114% more bitmaps, and a whopping 993% more models...The models isn't hard given the original map only having about 100K worth...But the map had 11MB of bitmaps, and you managed to add another 13MB ontop of that...I know I'm the only one who feels this way, but if I can get a really fun mod for 2MB of download, is that much extra really value added?..

That patch you compressed....how did you get it that small? The real question is why are you guys trying to argue with me when you know im right. Whats 5 mb of extra space. Especially when people are willing to donate it. ? You guys are just trying to prove me wrong. I love you guys in an ungay way and all but still. Who is going to take extra time to delete half the map.? No one. Ehh. Whats the point in me arguing anymore because you guys are just going to corner me in a small hole. Like you do most opposing people :P. So can the mods please close this.

The patch was that small because I used Serenity...Uncompressed, it was 6MB smaller than the uncompressed SPPF...Add to that Serenity uses LZMA to compress (same as 7zip)...It's alittle slower to compress, but the trade off seems worth it...

The point isn't "just because", the point is justification...If the size restriction was raised to 15MB "just because", more mods would be 15MB instead of 10, and everyone would be fighting to get 20MB "just because"...As I proved with your mod, it'll still fit under 10MB...And it's not just 5MB more space, it's 50% more space...Factor that over the entire site, not just one mod...

Show me a great mod that's 15MB because it's great, and not 15MB because "OMG I crammed so much stuff into this, and reskinned and dragged over tons of cool stuff", and maybe I'd reconsider...Don't get me wrong, I'm all for reskinning, and bringing over things from SP...But I don't think either of which should add more textures to the map than existed in the first place...And it's not alot of extra time...It's less time...You use the Machinima Companion, remove the LOD's, and your done...Then if you want to skin, you only need to bother with the main LOD...Not saying you have to...Just that if you plan on your mod being massive, maybe it's something you should consider...
