C'mon, Moderators...

I mean, come on. At least twenty of the forums have over 20 pages of built up crap. I think you should set auto-prunes in these forums for about 5 pages. I mean, seriously. Many forums have about 20 pages, and even the Halo PC forum has a whopping 95 pages!! You should definitely delete a lot of these topics. I'm sure the forum would run a lot faster without these topics.

Let me show you some stats:

New Users Section: 20 Pages
Sapien, Tool, etc: 25 Pages
Mapping: 30
Skinning & Modeling: 65
Halo CE: 20
Halo2 Modding General: 50
Xbox Editing: 20
Halo PC Modding: 95
Halo Discussion: 15
Signatures: 15
Tech Questions: 25
Cafe: 20
HMT: 25

Now let me show you some math. The numbers next to each forum are the number of pages I'm taking away:

New Users Section: 15 Pages
Sapien, Tool, etc: 20 Pages
Mapping: 20
Skinning & Modeling: 60
Halo CE: 10
Halo2 Modding General: 40
Xbox Editing: 10
Halo PC Modding: 85
Halo Discussion: 5
Signatures: 5
Tech Questions: 20
Cafe: 10
HMT: 15

Taking away the above number of pages from each forum, we'd then have the following number of pages in each forum:

New Users Section: 20-15=5 Pages
Sapien, Tool, etc: 25-20=5 Pages
Mapping: 30-20=10
Skinning & Modeling: 65-60=5
Halo CE: 20-10=10
Halo2 Modding General: 50-40=10
Xbox Editing: 20-10=10
Halo PC Modding: 95-85=10
Halo Discussion: 15-5=10
Signatures: 15-5=10
Tech Questions: 25-20=5
Cafe: 20-10=10
HMT: 25-15=10

Now when you add up all the numbers of pages from each forum I want to delete, you get:

15+20+20+60+10+40+10+85+5+5+20+10+15=315 deleted pages

There are 50 posts on every page, not including the Announcements. Stickies count toward those 50 posts, so for example, you might find 4 stickies and 46 normal posts on one page. But since the pages being deleted are all in the back, they only have Announcements, not stickies. Therefore, all the posts that are being deleted would be normal posts.

So that's 50 normal posts per page.

(50 posts per page) X (315 pages being deleted) = 15,750 posts being deleted.

So (the number of total Halomods posts, about 225,000) - (the number of posts being deleted, 15,750) = About 210,000.

In my mind, dropping 15,000 posts from this forum would do us a lot of good. I think some auto-prune adjustments should be made.

And that's my argument. Please consider this topic.

Thanks,

Grenadiac said he doesnt really want the forums completely cleaned out, so that people can find useful information a long time ago. I learned that the hard way -_-

Just what I was about to say...

Besides, the forums run fine. The only time they have problems is when kiddys think it's cool to DDoS them...

Agree'd.
If the site runs slowly then it's your connection and/or your computer.

BTW you can set the same thing at gearbox that the topics don't actually get dleted they just don't get loaded. You can still search for them and bump them. That would avoid bumping :D

Grenadiac could always convert the forum to something easier to use, say... Invision Power Board. There are many alternatives that run plain faster than PHPBB, and with the more known boards, easier to convert from PHPBB while keeping threads and users intact. Thoughts?

Well, I'm sure you know I've tried to convince Gren to change to something like SMF (Free, simple, secure, has a phpbb convertor) before, but for some reason he insists on sticking to phpbb :?

Minerva is derived from phpBB, exactly what we should be trying to get away from ;)
