theycallmechad wrote:Howdy. I like avatars, but only to an extent. I like them for awards (like we used to have for SOTW, MOTW, etc.) as it can show both accomplishments and status (status for the staff). I think that we users should NOT be allowed to pick our own avatars at all. In general, I like the looks of most users NOT having avatars. It makes the forum look much more professional, even though it's dominated by 12 and 13 year old kids for the most part ;).

As for the contests: I ran the Haloween contest this year and thought it to be an enjoyable experience (at least for me). I would be more than happy to do more in the future. I had little problems with people complaining and had a good system for people still being able to get things off their chest. There was, if I recall, only one person this whole time who made any sort of a fuss publicly in the voting topic. The issue was resolved in PMs, and the contest went on.
Having a gallery of avatars to choose from might, and I mean MIGHT, be a good idea. It's like that at High Impact Halo. However, Grenadiac does not respond quickly when it comes to installing MODs.

In my opinion, leave the forum as is. It's perfectly fine. Avatars would just cause trouble.

I think we're fine without avatars.

Too bad Iron_Forge can't be here to give us an intricate description of why we shouldn't. :?

I think the site should have LP/Wallpaper/Manip contests in the graphics section like Evolved's thread rather then a SOTW considering sigs show no sign of artisitic ability.

Signatures aren't all that important here at HaloMods... in fact, you'll find most users don't even have an image in their signature.

Here's what we allow in signatures here at HaloMods:
-One Image at a maximum size of 500x120 and 75KB.
-Two or more images that ADD up to 500x120 and 75KB in TOTAL.
-Animations ARE allowed as long as they follow the above rules.
-Maximum three lines of text if you have image(s) in your signature.
-Maximum five lines of text if you don't have an image(s) in your signature.
Except maybe no animations. The Users seems to be more lenient about things of the sort.
I hate to point out the obvious, but those are exactly the same rules we have at files... in fact the users forum rules were derived from the files...

They allow five lines of text if the user doesn't have an image in their signature. We don't.

They allow animations, we don't.

Oh, one little difference. I don't want it though, too much text is ugly and annoying.

I say no...Only because the 80% of people that are exploitatious arseholes ruin it for the 20% that would use things effectivley...

Well, avatars, I am not too much of a fan...Like I like my own avatars but seeing the flashing ones or the stupid fucking dancing banana (or of Brian posing as the stupid fucking dancing banana)... Its the same with animated sigs, I'd make ones which would work, like having soft rain or some fog passing over the sig...Others though would have the flashing ones like "subliminal subliminal subliminal" in between flashes of white...

5 lines of text would also be crap because people would make the text bold large and red like they currently do...But 5?, I like reading posts, not sigs

thats all I gotta say :P

I love you too Scotty.

Anyways, the text rule currently states 3 standard size lines, not just 3 lines anymore, due to people exploiting the rules. My signature is not over the limit because, while it has large text, it is only two lines.

yes..

however the emblem system does not... hardly any emblems are given and i could've gotten one by now..

also outstanding section is obsolete.. and elite section is obsolete
(GTAF said it has to do with new users releasing elite content.. according to that statement there are no users releasing any elite content, which is basically quite bs, because headshot "has" released elite content on regular base..)
plus this forum can use some rejuvenation.. the forums are mad old and the organization of forum boards plain suck if you ask me. all that get major hits are halo 2 download, and pictures
Halo 2 Modder&Player,XBC:Ownagemaster.

I strongly feel the Elite and Outstanding forums need major work. I think maybe an "Old School" forum should be made, where all the mods from Outstanding and Elite are put in, so the two respective sections can be started from scratch. Mods don't necessarily need new things in them to be good, HSM makes awesome mods, some of which deserve to be put into the Outstanding forum, as they are lost with time in the mass of other mods that mean very little. I hope someone reads this and acknowledged this, because as SmackTalker stated, that have become somewhat obsolete and boring.

As for avatars... I say no. There would be a small population that use the emblems as avatars, which would annoy the fuck outta me, and I think they should be something to earn, or to show something important.

Emblems? They also need some work in my eyes, I notice a lot of people that deserve certain emblems, that have not yet received them. A prime example would be SmackTalker... he should 100% have the Coagulator one by now. There are too many to talk about, but we need new, more active Emblem distributors.

Contests; I would love for there to be more contests, as it motivates and encourages people to make good mods. I would love to see ScottyGEE modding again and such, although it would be repetitive when just the excellent "old school" modders win every contest, which is bound to happen.

There's my two cents on the issue(s) at hand, now to reflect on how that was all a waste of typing because it more than likely won't be taken into consideration...

I'd be happy to run competitions, or perhaps help Chad out, because I love seeing how creative people can get with one theme. I mean, Haloween, there were a lot of good maps and ideas floating around. Which makes me wonder why mods aren't always that great and creative.

Competitions FTW.

PS: No avatars, I hate them. (Unless it's staff).

I agree with everything you said 100%, I think this is a really good idea and should be pushed for. Especially the Outstanding thing, Headshot deserves it. I don't understand whats not outstanding enough about headshots mods. I mean I have seen vehicle skins in Outstanding, I mean , Come on!
