Request for more moderators or to bring back the Arbiters

Is somebody flaming or causing problems? Is there a post that is too large for content? Moderators will check here often to discover problems quickly.

Request for more moderators or to bring back the Arbiters

Post by Zenon »

well as i've decided to comeback i see the situation of which the H2 downloads section in particualr was like about half a year ago and in a flaming sense a year ago
I would like to request the reforming of the Arbiters or a selection of new moderators for the H2 downloads section
I mean i haven't seen flaming an arguing like this since the whole 7th Sanctum , Team Defiance arguements.
but anyway the old system worked it worked well, last summer the arguing was at a minimum, barely any flaming, and production was incredible huge steps forward were amazing, model injection, insolence, dark matter, the beginnings of what would become bsp editing

All of these were made because the modding community was a community, with a good team of modders and a group of arbiters to keep tabs on threads

This i believe is what is needed to bring an end to the countless flaming threads

thanks for your time

Zenon

(ps. Yes i am back...and yes for good)
Think its time i oiled the rusty joints and see if i still got it ;)

I agree...plus, the moderating staff is stretched thin enough as it is.

We have gotten rid of the arbiters. If we think someone is worthy of moderator status, they are made a moderator.

Yeah.

:P

I was an arbiter before but got demoted because Pacifica hacked me, and told Yomama I gave him my password.

Which was completely untrue, I would never give anyone my password.

Not even my best friend.

I don't think the problem is with the quantity of moderators and the non-existant arbiters...But rather the quality...I believe goal was to slim down the administrative ranks to those who are required, not just those who were "friends" with someone who was in power...Needless to say, it failed...

It is my opinion that a site the size of HaloMods needs to be run as a business to handle everything fairly...But again, it's not my site, and it's difficult to do so when many of the people who are in a position of "power", simply are because they were prominant members when the site had 20 people...And as seen by the last "demotion" phase (which failed overall in my opinion), people take it extremely personally when they've held a position for so long...

I agree with the points in this thread to... I would love to have the old community back where everyone worked together and progress was actually being made.

arbiters/more mods would not guarentee everyone working together...itd hopefully keep things in order, thats probly as far as it goes.

But I've thought for awhile now that there should be more or more activity (look at my other thread on this page of C&S).

If a change were to happen i would suggest an arbiter for each section (or the section that needs moderation [Graphics, C&S, NewUsers, Techquestions are fine as they are IMO]). Activity in each section is pretty much required.

But im unsure how we would choose these new people anyway.

Draw straws?

But seriously, I totally agree with what's being said. When I first joined halomods, I quickly was turned off by all the flaming and went elsewhere, only to find fewer mods, and often mods of lower quality. I therefore returned, happy with the mods, but unhappy with the bickering, clan disputes, and flaming. I think halomods is a great site and I'm here for as long as I mod, but I can say that it has a very bad reputation elsewhere for its flaming. When people elsewhere refer to halomods, it's always in a negative way. Like the others, I'd love to see this place return to what I've heard it has been in the past. I wasn't here for those days and feel like I missed out on something great.

Good luck, and hopefully everything will work out!

I think the Halo 2 section just needs some stronger rules; that us moderators can be sure we can enforce.

This is a huge forum. If it were smaller, you'd see much less problems. No matter how many moderators, there are going to be problems, so you're going to have to deal with it. I really do not see any chance of this site being a 100% friendly place to be. I'm sorry, but that's just how things are.

The question is, do you guys want stricter rules? I've tried to restrict the amount of new rules being implemented because not matter what, with every new rule we put on I get 10 PMs saying they hate me and that this forum is way to strict.

Anyway, I'll try to personally keep a closer watch in the h2 downloads section from now on.

What it really comes down to is the users.. I'm sure threads that break the rules and users that are disruptive are dealt with just as quickly as when the arbiters were in 'power'.

I think that if a mod sees someone doing something, they just tell them not to do it in a very enforcing way. And if like te person starts like flaming again or worse even a moderator! Then the guy would be banned. I owuld suggest that as a temporary rule just so people learn.
