I highly doubt that we can classify any of them as AI. Even in Halo 2, in backwash, that monitor is not AI. All the birds flying in Guardian/Last Resort, etc. wouldn't be considered AI. The sentinels are probably running on scripts as well, seeing as they don't express any other functions.
But in Halo 3, Snowbound, the turrets that attack if you enter a certain area.

I was waiting for that post.
We know, but we also know what he meant by AI, not literal AI but things that move around the level.
EDIT: I just remembered the phrase for it; active scenery.

I'm letting jackson know that they aren't considered AI, and therefore he shouldn't be using that term.

Similar to SnowBound, guardians. I suppose they could be classified as AI, in a way. They're more or less just an unstoppable killing machine though.

They are AI. They detect their surroundings and react to them. Both Snowbound and Sandtrap have such AI.

As a note: The birds and sentinels etc. do not sync.

For snowbound
Code: Select all
(script startup snowbound_main
(begin
(vehicle_auto_turret turret0 turret0 3 0 0)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret1 turret1 3 0 0)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret2 turret2 3 0 0)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret3 turret3 3 0 0)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret4 turret4 3 0 0)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret5 turret5 3 0 0)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret6 turret6 2.5 0 0)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret7 turret7 2.5 0 0)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret8 turret8 2.5 0 0)
)
)
For Sandtrap
Code: Select all
(script startup shrine_main
(begin
(vehicle_auto_turret turret_north0 tv_turret_north0 185 195 10)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret_north1 tv_turret_north1 195 205 10)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret_side0 tv_turret_side0 185 190 10)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret_side1 tv_turret_side1 182.5 190 10)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret_south0 tv_turret_south0 189 195 10)
(vehicle_auto_turret turret_south1 tv_turret_south1 190 200 10)
)
)
So yeah theres a degree of AI, good call Tural

The birds, and fish don't sync cuz they don't have any effect on gameplay which would just waste bandwidth. But since the turrets and mines can actually kill you, destroy your vehicle, etc... Those actually sync.
Basically, the birds and fish, and (mabey a few other creatures?) are under the "Creatures" tag in a halo 3 map file, while the snowbound turrets are under the "Mach" tab labeled as "cov_defender" which basically leads to the idea that the game simply doesn't syncronise creature tags.

Not after being under a concrete slab for a while grass isn't, it tends to be coloured yellow
