What do you guys think on the halo 3 weapon line up???

Hey all just getting myself established again and like most of us here waiting on the tools to breath new life into halo 3.
I havent been around much again but with luch any time soon.
Just wanted to throw out the question really as to what the masses here think of the weapon selection, balance and the whole forge thing.

For me personally i found the melee to strong
The magnums well (scraping of soapbox heard) what were they thinking?
The needler got suddenly so heavy the chief can only hold one now

Love forge but having only certain weapons on certain levels and a very limited pallet is kinda half the deal.

Any thoughts???????

Melee Strength: How would you feel if you got punched by a genetically altered man who was wearing a ton of armor?

Magnums: They're actually not that bad if you got duals. In close range, I'd prefer them over the Battle Rifle.

Needler: Have you used it before? You'd be an unstoppable god if you could dual-wield those things. It's not about weight as much as it is about balance.

Forge: I do wish that I could place more objects on Forge, such as more than just 8 firebomb grenades.

I agree melee is way to strong, one more thing... I want my trip mine back, the one that was so strong and so full of win...

Personally I like the melee... The needler being super light weight and only single wieldable does not make much sense unless you think balance wise but masterchief could easily dual wield assault rifles and battle rifles if you think about it that way.
Sucks that forge is kindu restricted but atleast we got it. Hopefully the new map that they said is made for customization will make up for this.

The man can flip a tank on command, I don't doubt his strength is anything short of lethal.

I have one Trip Mine kill, and I kinda laugh seeing it in my Service Record. It is a bit too weak though...you can walk over one and all it does is take away your shields.

I like the weapon line up, each thing has its own place and use. Also, Spartan Laser is the greatest thing ever.

You: genetically altered man who was wearing a ton of armor

(You also have lots of armor on to is my point.)

Sometimes fiction accuracy is sacrificed for a better game experiences. Gameplay comes before story.

Also, Spartans can't control the recoil of the SMG, where are the complaints about that? >_>

I think every weapon (save the Sword and I think the Hammer) have the same melee distance.

They do. However, I think the Mauler has a 1-2 frame faster swing.

Yeah I think the Mauler does as well. Sometimes it annoys the crap out of me when I have a sword, lunge, and they manage to bulltrue me.

I think that it's called the mauler, so it should be aloud to have a faster beat down.
The one thing I hate is how an daul maulers can headshot you from like 10 feet away. That's bullshit.

Mauler can get ridiculous, I think the melee should be altered.

AR vs BR at close-range annoys me.

Everything else is awesome.

I think the brute shot needs a tiny upgrade, because if it's not a direct hit, it does almost no damage.
Also the shotgun on isolation needs more ammo, it only has 6 shots.
Lastly I think that the spikers daul aren't strong enought, seeing as I can almost load a full clip off of both spikers and the enemy with an AR can kill me.

The majority of the weapons I'm actually quite satisfied with...Of course, my two favourites are the splaser and the grav hammer. But of course, I have a few gripes

I feel the magnum is less useful than halo 2. At least in halo 2 I could do plasma pistol magnum combo two shots dropped...But I dunno, I just never find myself wanting to use it. I'll take any weapon over it really. Halo 2 I'd forget other weapons before the magnum.

I say shotgun should be slightly more powerful. I feel as if nothing short of a really close shot is a kill. The rest just lowers the shield. And when comparing it to the mauler (which can be dualed), the shotgun feels a bit less epic. It even has a smaller clip :(

Rocket launcher's speed makes the thing a bit less useful. I don't care about the lockon, but if its gonna shoot that slow, I dunno, it turns it into a more close up weapon or a "i'll predict it but hopefully I'll hit but chances are I won't"

I like the extra power of a needler, but essentially the only thing that can beat it is the 1-2 shot kill weapons or your very fast. Only a tiny reduction would be what I'd want...But yeah its nothing that bad at all.

Now this has nothing to do with the actual use of the weapon, but I'm still confused about the sniper rifle green screen. Halo 2 is was the real time+zoomed screen...And now its some green wireframe screen with no zoom on it? I don't get it? Its a kool little thing to look at but you can't even use it yourself.

I love the melee..I always felt halo 2 made it weak/annoying. But the slight delay when playing online can make me sad. The whole online experience is seamless except that really.

@Hawiian, I find the spikers to be killer and greater than the AR up close, just like the smg...That's ownage.

Lastly, I'm disapointed with Forge options. I want to be able to place any weapon I want in a level. Them spouting technical restrictions sounds really quite odd to me...Unless of course that restriction is that they didn't actually include the meta on the maps to save space. If I want flamethrowers in valhalla, I should be allowed dagnammit!

Also, Hey Mr Murder :D Gotta play you on live sometime (Id need your darn Gamertag first ;p)...

Meh in my opinion, the gravity hammer is the biggest noob weapon in H3 next to the spartan laser.

I disagree. The spartan laser wielders get owned in the wrong context (like using it against someone with an AR close up)...However at times I feel its too easy (or maybe I'm good, or maybe they are total morons not noticing the warnings) The gravity hammer I disagree fully. Not only does it have a long "ready" time, it has a crappy lunge range and if used too early will send him back further with hardly any damage dealt...Allowing him to continue to feed you bullets. I say the sword has an advantage over the grav hammer with lunge range and more definite kill...But I love it for what it can do rather than how easy/not easy it is to kill someone with it.

Though the Grav hammer totally owns the sword when vehicles are involved :o

EDIT: Unless you can hit people in vehicles with the sword in Halo 3
