Halo 3 and 3 rings of death?

Post by MaestroMan »

Ok, I know I sound like a suspicious bastard... but it was nagging away at me for ages today; 2 days ago I bought Halo 3. After an hour or so of playing it stalled. This was followed by the Xbox 360 dashboard and Halo 3 repeatedly stalling after 10-15 minutes of turning on the console,and eventualy resulted in the '3 red rings of death' after turning on the console. When I was looking for ways to fix the problem, before I gave into sending it off to be repaired, I came across countless comments on YouTube and other forums of other people experiencing this problem. Coincidence? Just wondering if anyone else on the forum has experienced this problem.

I would blame those other people for having their 360 poorly setup making it prone to heating up more quickly, then overplaying the 360 (For example the people that played campaign in one sitting).
Your scenario sounds like it would have happened regardless of whether it be halo or not...I seriously can't understand how it could happen otherwise.

But its also a no from me...A vocal minority I would say :P . But I feel sorry for your situation.

ive been playing halo almost none stop usualy 5-8 hours at a time, so far the only times its locked up is a glitch i found in the dashboard involving going to your friends and doing a few things when the xbox first turns on and is logging into live. I would say its proally poor ventalation. Tho i do have one of the "new "improved" xboxs" but nobodys seen any evidence anythings actually fixed. Get a small fan, aim it at an angle with the back of the xbox so it moves the heat away.

I haven't noticed too much of a problem. I played Halo 3 for probably 6-7 hours yesterday, never locked up once (although occasional slight pauses were present, most likely due to loading). I do notice after a dashboard update that came out recently, that my dashboard will occasionally freeze for 3-4 seconds at a time, then continue, but H3 seems to have no issues. But damn the Limited Edition for having badly manufactured cases -_-

I completed easy, normal, heroic, and legendary while getting all the skulls in one sitting. And my xbox is in a little inclosed cabinet.

It's never had any problems at all. It's an originl one aswell, got it within the first 5 minutes of release.

This happens with every major game. A few people get an RROD while playing the game, and it all of a sudden becomes some major story that the game is bricking the console. Shit happens, but we just don't notice it until everyone starts complaining at the same time.

This is actually a big issue, xbox.com and bungie.net have a big forum pertaining to alot of people getting DRE's and the RROD error, then they can't do worth crap with anything that requires a disc. Neither Bungie nor MS have acknowledged the problem (they probably will once they have some sort of hope that there will be a fix)
I've said this so many times..

Like he said. It is not a big issue, it is stupid people. Had they been playing gears of war or bioshock there xbox still would have had issues. Mad people are complaining about halo 3 crashing there xbox im sure, that doesn't mean its true that halo 3 is causing any issues. Overplaying it and poor ventilation are likely the cause of most if not all of these alleged issues.

Happened to me.

Edit: Mine was well ventilated and I had only been playing half an hour max before experiencing problems. It wasn't hot, it was barely warm and I had never had any problems with it before but I don't think it was Halo 3's fault lolaadkfd.

If it's a choice, Buy the Halo Console, I played for 11 hours straight yesterday and it was barely warm.

Nah just make sure its a newer xbox check the manufacturers date on the back. I have the premium i bought it a little less than a month ago at bestbuy and they were happy to help me find if it was newer(With HDMI), my manufacturers date is 07/26/07 same as my friend who bought it at the same time. We also have a friend who has the older 360 premium(without the HDMI port), theres gets significantly hotter. Xbox has officially said the new ones have been updated.

Another big rule of mine DONT SHOP AT GAMESTOP!! There con artists who are looking to make every buck they can off you and they also sell old stock xboxs. I know this from when i went to buy mine.

The story of what happened incase your intrested in why i say not to shop there;
I highly educated myself on the buy prior to buying a 360, it is a large investment and i wanted to know every detail from the overheat issues to the differences between elite premium etc to even the internal differences between old and new consoles.
Me and a friend were both interested in buying a 360 in anticipation for halo 3. We went to gamestop assuming it would be a good place to go as they sell a lot of games and systems there likely to have the newer xboxs. We went in and explained we each wanted a 360, I asked him about them having the newer 360s not being interested in getting an old one. The conversation is as follows;
Me; Me and my friend were interested in buying a premium(360).

Gamestop Employee; Nah thats not what you want.(points to a sign showing the Halo 3 Xbox) Thats what you want to buy.(At the time this happened it was 2 weeks or so before it was even released meaning they were trying to get us to preorder a 360.........)

Me; Umm no thats not what i want. I said a premium. That(pointing to the sign) is the same thing as a premium with a 50$ paint job.

Gamestop Employee; No it has the HDMI and a new chip that fixes the overheat problems.

Me; The premium now has HDMI and there is no new chip in the halo 3 360 that stops it from overheating.

Gamestop Employee; No those premiums are still being manufactored.

Me; No there not they made them over 5 months ago....

Gamestop Employee; Oh well there still being distributed.

Me; No ive seen them purchased theyve been out for a while.

Gamestop Employee; Well were selling our old stock right now to get them all out for the new ones. We might have em but theres no way to tell without opening it if its the new one with HDMI.

Me; Ok ive had enough of your bullshit. (me and my friend walk out)

We later went to bestbuy and they were not only very helpful, and not concerned with selling me something i didnt want(as unlike gamestop employees they dont make a commission of of you). They also showed us that despite what the gamestop employee said it says HDMI port right on the side of the box and it is very easy to tell a new xbox from an old one....
