Yes and when miranda took out the index before Halo activated it sent out a thing that caused all the halo's to re-align or something so there ready for remote activation from the ark, meaning that Halo never went off meaning Cortana wouldn't have to destroy Halo.

But cortana was also caught by Gravemind, if you beat the game on legendary. :P

She never planned to detonate the reactor. The ring was seconds away from firing, and an explosion wouldn't destroy the entire ring instantly. She would have had to detonate it before the Index was removed. There's no way she could have known the Index would be removed. That's what we're saying.

So, she DIDN'T want to destroy Halo?
Evil Bitch.

Maybe she has a good reason.
Oh well, the most we can do is wait for H3...

She said she was going to detonate In Amber Clad's reactor if Tartarus activated the Halo. He activated it, she did not detonate the reactor in time. If Miranda had not removed the Index, the Halo would have fired and Cortana would not have had time to detonate the reactor.

Basically, when Chief left Cortana at High Charity, she was supposed to Detonate the In Amber Clad to blow up Halo and High Charity in case of Remote Activation.

But Miranda stopped Halo's Fire by pulling the Index out of that Beam thing in the Control room.

Cortana never detonated the Ship, meaning she didn't intend on stopping Halo from firing.

Or she fell asleep.
Which I doubt.

Play Marathon 2: Durandal and understand Rampant AIs plzkthx.
It's fun and it makes sense when applied to Halo.

Possible spoilers, from Wikipedia's article on Marathon describing rampant AI for those that are too lazy.
Next, by Marathon Infinity, all three of the UESC Marathon's artificial intelligences reach rampancy, which is the awareness of a computerized being that it is not real. Being extraordinarily intelligent, a rampant AI can override its programming and refuse to carry out given commands. As proven by Durandal (whose rampancy is most prominent throughout the story), who often gives the player what he calls "philosophical tirades," affected AIs are often very reflective. In the first of three stages, Melancholia, when an artificial intelligence discovers itself, it becomes melancholic and continues to be depressed until it reaches the second stage, Anger, at which it becomes hostile to virtually everything. This is the most prominent stage of rampancy, as the condition is often revealed at this point. When this anger dies in the third stage, Jealousy, the AI wishes to become more human and expand its power and knowledge. This stage will continue indefinitely or, in extremely rare cases, end in Meta-stability. Rampancy is prominent in artificial intelligences with limited work or those who are abused or sabotaged. Durandal is believed to have become rampant due to the fact that he originally was built for monotonous tasks such as general maintenance, opening and closing doors, and operating kitchens and crew quarters. In addition, he was believed to have been abused by a man named Bernard Strauss who mistreated him for the purpose of making him rampant. After being completely destroyed by the initial UESC Marathon invasion, Tycho (the science AI) was reanimated by the S'pht compilers with the framework of Durandal, who was rampant. Leela is sold by alien traders to a fifteen-world network after Marathon and becomes rampant; she is not seen again afterwards.

In the Halo-verse, smart AIs, such as Cortana, have a life of seven years before succumbing to rampancy. I don't believe Cortana's creation date is known, however.

[quote="FoR"]She would pay a price for her genius, however. Such growth eventually led to self-interference. Cortana would one day literally start thinking too much at the expense of her normal functions. It was as if a human were to think with so much of his brain that he stopped sending impulses to his heart and lungs.

Like all the other smart AIs that Dr. Halsey had worked with over the years, Cortana would effectively

I wouldn't think so. I think Cortana's like Norton Anti-Virus (for lack of a better example). It helps out a lot when it's active, but it can be destroyed without affecting the host OS.

Cortana is my Anti-virus.

I mean, she keeps viruses out of me Oo...

Funny if you were playing as chief, and all of a sudden he falls over dead and Cortana yells out....shouldn't have deleted that code... then you restart at the last checkpoint and it doesn't happen again.. lmao.
