First map? looks like a basic tutorial map. i dont think anyone will dl this map. not to be mean. but you need to go through some more tutorials and learn how to model better. i'll show the map i'm working on tomarrow. if you need help or have any problems you can pm me though.
i'm not trying to flame just being honest.

Congratulations. Neither did you.

As for the map, it's very basic and just uses a tessellated box with a displacement map to create the 'valley' type effect.

Try learning to model properly, and not just extrude the ground. Also, just because its your second map, doesn't mean you should post it. Wait for you to have a great map idea, then post that one. Not some map that could take 5 minutes to make.

#1 what did i say that made no sence? please point it out.
#2 you just told him basicly what i did but you were more harsh, come on its his 2nd map, ofcorse he shoudlnt post it. but on the other hand if he shows pics of it people can give him opinions on what he needs to work on. right now he needs to work on modeling all around but encourage dont discourage.
i know i'm still a noob but here are some pics of a map i've been working on...

Try not to hijack topics there Blaze. It's good that you're trying to learn to make maps there Qtip, and I hope to see some good stuff you. I don't recommend releasing everything you make at first though, at not until you get a good feel for your tools and map making in general. Keep it up.

i told qtip i'd show some pics of a map i'm working on but i got a little carried away on pics of the map i'm working on its an ongoing process. Opinions would be nice though. p.s. 2nd base is underground under the arrow. thats the one with the fog.

Tbh it is horrible. Please, do not use the heightmap/extrusion method. Not only were you too lazy to fix the boxy cliffs, but you wasted so many polygons with such bad results. Yet, that is about as much as that method can yield. I suggest looking up plane modeling tutorials, and using editable poly. Don't be lazy, as most of the geometry in bsp is created by you, and not by an automated process (such as extrusions or heightmaps). It may seem like a cumbersome task at first, but it begins to become fun, and you enjoy doing it. So, stick with it, and try to find some good tutorials.

Speaking of which, all I could find of plane modeling tutorials was plane modeling a beretta 9000. Care to show where these "plane modeling bsp" tutorials might be? :)

umm, did i not mention it needs alot of work still? and sorry i'm still a noob. but i think it is not a bad map. even alot of game maps started as a heightmap. thanks for the critisism. but anyways i'll take your advise.

Well, for one, it's Sense, and you were saying kiwidoggie made no sense, when really he did, just with a horribly constructed sentance.

I wasn't being discouraging, I was telling the truth. And in noway was it a harsh comment, I was telling him what he did, and what he should do in the future.

Yes, exploit one error in my grammar, because it makes my post less important. Definitely.

I don't and never said I did disagree with your opinion. You're just defending yourself by mocking a single grammar mistake.
