is there any way i can make h2v run faster?
is there any way i can make h2v run faster?
I have a good computer, i think, but the framerate is still crap when i play outdoors or run into people....here are my specs
processor: Intel Pentium 4 cpu 2.00 GHz
memory (RAM): 1023 MB
Graphics card: ATI RADEON 256mb DDR2 X1300 PRO
anything i can do to get a peed boost? I've already tried lowering the resolution and other settings, but i still only get around 10fps in some places.

actually, I think it could be my RAM, because someone did say that windows vista takes up 1 gb of RAM. I might have to go buy more. I don't think its my graphics card (well, i mean it could be...but i don't think so)
i have a broadband connection thats pretty fast...so i don't think its that either.

Except not everyone has 1 grand to spend on Graphics Cards. Plus the extra grand or so it'd cost for the quad core and extra 4+ gigs of ram...cryticfarm wrote:Max out your ports of ram and get 2 geforce 8800GTX. Hook them up together. and get a quad core. Thats how you make it run faster...
That and he'd have to get a new Motherboard because not all motherboards support that much RAM.
So please, refrain from posting anything stupid like that ever again.

Ok, I'm sure some of us know how to do that, but let me explain #1, T-1 Internet Connection is expensive. Last time I looked, it was $200 a month. T-3 is even more expensive, but is basically reserved for business reasons. Oct 1 and Oct 3 have no price, but they have extreme download and upload rates. Used by the goverment and gaming companies for increased bandwidth. Why do you think they have room for all those servers?DJ_Gnomey wrote:1. Have a broadband connection or better (t1, t3, Oct 1, Oct 3)
2. Water cool your computer
3. Overclock the graphics card and the pentium (can be achieved with a few hacks, jumper settings, and a water cooled pc as stated in #2)
Dude ya like need to get 10 quad cores and 15 8800's...asldfha;;dfja
Heres a couple practical things that can help:
1. In vista under theme, chaneg it to classic mode. This will get rid of the vista eyecandy but will also free up some memory.
2. Play in windowed mode. I noticed I get an average 5-10fps more in this mode.
3. If you have a flash drive laying around plug it in and turn readyboost on. This will tell vista to use the flash drive as memory. Its basically taking the pagefile off of the slow hard drive and putting it on the faster usb drive.
Hope this helps some.

First make sure the drive is plugged in. Go under my computer and look for the flashdrive. Right click it, go to properties, readyboost, and make sure 'use this device' is selected. Set the amount of space you want to use as far to the right as the meter will go. Thats it!
Also, its always wise to reboot after a change like this.
Dont expect a huge performance boost with a 256. It will help, but a larger drive would work better.
Also dont be quick to overlook the windowed mode. It is a smaller screen but if it makes your game play smoothe you may like it.

Get a Pentium D or a Dual Core 2 processorantomic wrote:I have a good computer, i think, but the framerate is still crap when i play outdoors or run into people....here are my specs

as for ram 2GB suggest or get a special mobo with 4GB of ram slots available
graphics card is okay
but on the ram again, the ram should be okay at 1GB
Processor is main concern
lol....I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna spend over $150 just to get a $50 game running smoothly. I already spent a lot on the graphics card
I'll try plugging in the flsh memory and runnning the game in a smaller window...If it doesn't run at a decent speed, I'll just go return it, then.
*laughs at thought of spending $200 to play halo when i have it for xbox*

The government is not the only ones who use fast connections. Some schools use Oct 1 and 3 so if you have a good laptop or you live in a dorm with your custom pc, you're in business.

How much did you spend on the Video card? I wouldn't think over $100 US. That video card is really not good for games. Step up to at least a Radeon X1600 PRO for good performance. You have a PCI-E x16 for your current card right? And since you spent $50 for a game that doesn't work because your specs are too low, I think that you should spend the $150 and get that Video card upgraded since any other games you buy will most likely yield some of the same results.antomic wrote:lol....I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna spend over $150 just to get a $50 game running smoothly. Ok most of the people who have replied to this post are total morons and should not post on things they do not know about!
Firstly your processor is very dated. It is the bare min to run halo 2 vista.
Your graphics card will suffice ( just)
RAM , what speed is it do you know? anythign less than 400mhz DDR1 Pc3200 will affect your framerate badly.
My advice buy a new processor off ebay by the sounds of things your processor is a old socket 478 pentium 4. You cna get a 3.4ghz one of these for about $70. Ideally you would want to get a new system but for now this is the best you can do.
Also close anythign that is running in the backgroudn when palying this includes anti virus msn etc.
In all truth you need a new pc.

Run it on XP.
Sorry, but I have to say it. People have been experiencing better speeds on XP. It may not help all that much, and may not even be worth it for you, but I think it needs to be said. Halo 2 Vista runs better on XP.
