I was browsing through the exe, and found this:
Code: Select all
<Liveconfig>
<titleid>4D53080F</titleid>
<lankey>FEEFF00D01020304506071728a8da99a</lankey>
<rating></rating>
<enableCrossPlatformSystemLink>false</enableCrossPlatformSystemLink>
<titleversion>102B0180</titleversion>
</Liveconfig>
Not sure if it means much, but it's worth testing out later

Wait, so that is in the Halo 2 Vista exe? Looks to me like they were going to enable system linking with Halo 2 Vista, but abandoned it. I have H2 Vista, I'll take a look at it. What app did you open the H2V exe in? It is very much worth testing!
Edit: Maybe a Halo 2 revision is coming out for the 360 soon?

You can find that by opening halo2.exe in a hex editor. It is also located in halo2.exe.cfg

Cross-Platform System link seems a tad pointless considering Halo 2 Vista only allows one player where the xbox version allows 4 extra controllers.

So? What about it? How does that make it pointless? The more the merrier.
and you can pwn more people because they can't see their player as well if the screen is split up into smaller parts
EDIT: I thought this meant cross-platform online play. System link on H2V? WTF? Just use lan! Gosh... Wait, does this mean you might be able to play, say, coop campaign over Windows and Xbox live? With 2 participants, one on Xbox and one on Vista?

Pretty sure no sys-link co-op on xbox at least. Or else we would already be doing it on xbox.
System link is just the xbox name for lan anyways. It would be kind of cool if we could have cross-platform sys-link though.

I'm thinking they're referring to System Link as online play. Like Xbox Live and Windows Live online together.

I agree, they must have been testing cross platform play. However, if they didn't put it into the final version, there must have been major issues, something that important/cool i'm sure would have been stuck into there if it was able to.

My point, Muffin, was that a computer would only be 1 extra controller. This also making the matches uneven...unless people had 2/4/8/even# computers to even the match out. It has some uses, but not many; and nothing of any great importance.

does halo 2 vista only work on vista because of directx10 or is it for other reasons too?

It's mostly because of Windows Live, which is Vista-only.

There is actually software in development that could possibly allow Halo 2 Vista to run on XP, but it wouldn't be fully-functional.

As long as the map editor works fully on XP, I don't care. >_>
