Modding Halo 2 PC
The most obvious reason for people getting Halo 2 PC is for those who don't like split screen in multiplayer and/or Xbox Live. In any case, this will more than likely spawn a whole chain of multiplayer (and yes single player) modding mayhem. So, if you had programs like HMT and SparkEdit for editing Halo 2 maps (whether it be Single Player or Multiplayer), what kinds of things would you do?

well, i would add super luster to every model in multiplayer maps because in SP, it's just too much!

Exactly what I said http://www.halomods.com/forums/viewtopi ... ht=#306998Malf wrote:You can't assume anything about modding H2PC. Since it's being developed for Vista, it could have all types of security that stops us from editing anything.
*Waits for stupid comment from some nub about how OMG W3 WILL PWN TEH 'M$' SECURITYZZZ*
If and when we mod H2PC I don't think it will be too different than what we have now for a little bit.

Well, considering most people have their xbox on a 100mbit/s network (unless their router sucks), transferring large files isn't really much of an issueApocalypseTyrant wrote:modding H2PC will just be more convenient than the Xbox version since you don't have to worry about transfering it all over to another machine. Those maps can get pretty hefty in size.

The main reason I'm getting H2PC is becuase it's eaisier to mod, and because it has a map editor.
I'd probably mod it using some H2PC version of Sparkedit, and with Hex Editor. Using them to move stuff around, duplicate stuff, and change weapon projectiles (I know they are very simple mods, but I'll also dl many other mods).

I think your jumping the gun, they havent yet comfirmed any "modding" functions. Although they probably will and I do hope they make it a big feature. We cant be sure and we shouldnt jump the gun yet.
Plus even if they didnt, us modders would find a way, Halo pc, they never released any modding tools officially and look how far we got. I think modders if need be will make programs to help it, just like Gren and mono did with halo 1

I take it you declined to read the part about the SDK?..younghaloce wrote:The main reason I'm getting H2PC is becuase it's eaisier to mod, and because it has a map editor.

Well they did actually release official modding tools for Halo PC (HEK for CE) but it was long into the life of Halo PC...after they saw how popular modding the game was becoming. Personally, i just like the fact that with Halo 2 PC, you'll be able to play 16 people in multiplayer, but have a full screen. I don't know about the rest of you, but split screen drives me nuts. Plus, I never could justify subscribing to Xbox Live.

even if microsoft put some security features on halo2 PC to stop modding it im sure ppl will beable to crack them i mean look at IE they said it has top of theline security you go online with it *BOOM* you have a virus or spyware or somethign like that
enless they put the security they use to proect thier company computers from hackers ppl whould be able to find away to hack the security or override it.

Anything can be hacked. It just takes time and patience. Let's compare hacking to someone breaking into your house. Sure, if you install a sturdy lock or two, it'll keep most people out. It just isn't worth the effort, but if someone really wants to get in, so they decide to bring a bazooka along, then they're going to get in. The same applies with a computer. Firewalls and encryption may do you you a world of good against most of the world, but if someone really wants to get in, they'll find a way.
