Alright, since H2PC will obviously be a HUGE event for the modding community, I thought we could start up a new forum specifically for it. Let the buzz begin!
First of all, the announcement made earlier today:
http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.asp ... &p=6136047
What are your thoughts? Considering how much better the netcode is with Halo2 Xbox, I think H2PC will have a lot more staying power as far as multiplayer lifespan. And since Frankie mentioned that we will be able to make new maps...well that's just huge for us.

Hopefully the SDK will be a lot more flexible... and maybe support for a modeling app other than the 3.5k 3ds Max would be smart as well. Too bad gmax is no more... =\
Can't wait though, its like waiting for halo2 all over again. I'll be there at midnight picking up vista and halo2 pc

This is awesome news.
Only thing I'm hoping is they do something about the cheating. If there's as much as there is now on the Xbox, God only knows how much there might be on Vista. Well hey, Vista = another world of opportunities.

Well now I'd think that microsoft has more control over the cheating than they did on teh xbox if you ask me. And im sure they arent going ot release without at least getting rid of it for the most part.

I'll be sure to get it if I get Windows Vista. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn out to be like Windows ME.

anyway by the time vista is released the price of hardware would decrease and it would be about time for the majority to upgrade thier hardware anyway, i dont think it will be that big of a deal.
its just unusual for games to be available for one OS

I'm pretty sure they stated they also used Maya also this time around, but that doesn't help still ;p

Hopefully this can bring halo modding into the mainstream of the halo community, and restore our creditability after the whole xbox live modding fiasco.

THey should do things similar to Halo Custom Edition, imho.
When it comes to the SDK, I hope they do what they did with CE and release the tools Bungie uses to make the game, but add in features like support for stuff like Maya PLE, Gmax, etc, and some comprehensive help on most topics, instead of leaving it ALL up to community to find out how to operate everything. If you knew how to operate the tools for CE, you could do tons of cool stuff. (Hell, how about Xbox support? Make your own Halo 2 maps for the xbox; if you have a 360 you can just shoot it over!)
As for the cheating issue, they should use CE's system of map checksum generation to verify map versions; would stop stupid-ass projectile-swapping cheaters. It's slow, but I would trade off a fast boot time for a clean, legitimate game any day.

I recommend that a moderator locks this forum and makes it so only moderators can start topics. Then they can start discussion topics, and we won't get all the useless topics that will inevitably be posted here up until Halo 2 PC's release.
