Problem with Sapien :(

Post by seanb0y15 »

Hello.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone helped.
I have been making a few maps using 3ds studio max 7. Today, when i was compiling the map with light it came up with this.

http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/5917/hmmwt1.jpg

It says that it cannot find the tags. Because of this i cannot open it in sapien.

Thanks for reading and a bigger thanks for the person who tells me what is up with it.

P.S. If you need any more details pm me

see where it says "the following tags are missing"? Thats your map. It was not able to compile for a number of reasons. Try a couple things in 3ds.

#1 make sure you unhide everything.

#2 make sure you connected the b_levelroot correctly.

#3 make sure you applyed all the tags in materials after setting the materials to the map/planes.

This is seanb0y15's screenshot.

It says the tags are missing. So you should make sure that those files are inside those folders. If they were missing then you might not have compiled it correctly. Make sure that you put them in the correct folder structure. It should be:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2 Map Editor\tags\scenarios\multi\mapname\mapname.scenario
Seeing as how you have a folder called h2v maps in there, it might be the wrong folder structure and that might make it load incorrectly.

I was gonna mention that in my previous post but i got sidetracked.
your max file and Ass file has to be in
"halo2mapeditor\data\scenarios\multi\mapname\structure\mapname.ass & mapname.max"

If that is incorrect it will not load. You have to save the files there before compiling and lighting.

Oh and the files are missing because they were not created. They are not just lost.

These are the things i have done

1. Map.ASS and Map.3ds is in the folder known as structure.
2. B_level root is linked correctly
3. No open edges or anything in the map
4. Everything is unhidden
5. The scenario gets created but turns corrupt so sapien cannot open

Its just the lighting part that the map plays up on.

I have uploaded the .ASS and .3ds file and the link is:

It is only 100Kb as i put it into .rar

This one is a different map but with exactly the same problem

I would greatly appreciate it if someone told me what is wrong with it, and yes i know its a very basic map lol

Are you using the bungie .ass exporter? Or ghost's?
If you are using the bungie exporter the only thing i can think of is you have an error with your map. I'll look at your file when i get a chance.
I've had nothing but problems with ghost's exporter. I'd love to use it b/c i have 3ds max 2008 but it just dosen't work for me.

I had no problem compiling and putting in saipen. I'm thinking 1 of 2 things are your problem.
#1 your ass and max files HAVE to be in the directory below EXACTLY.
data\scenario\multi\Parallelworlds\structure\

#2 Maybe you didnt APPLY your bitmaps after setting them.

Can you see the bitmaps in max applyed on the walls\floors ect.....?

When the material is applied i can see it when using 3ds max 7.

Also the structure is in the right place. :?

I finally have it working. It was all because it was all over a sub-folder.

Thanks for all those who helped especially you johnny.

I can now finish off creating my less "boxy" maps

Yeah now that i look at your screenshot i noticed you did have your map file in the wrong directory. Looks like you hade it in one too many folders.
And the folder before your structure folder wasn't the same name as your map.
