Need help finding a notebook

Post by 0m3g4Muff1n987 »

I need a laptop. A good priced gaming one. Every singe website I go to doesn't have good enough, really good but too expensive, or just I don't like it, specs. For example you can search for a computer by its specs, but either some things are not included in the search function (ie. you can choose a processor brand but not speed), or you'll have to choose EXACT specs, not just the minimun specs AND HIGHER.

So I'll need the help of actual people with brains, not limited search functions. Here are my prefs for a notebook:

-I don't give a **** what it looks like. It would be cool if it was like reflective blue or something but it barely matters
-I don't care what brand it is. As long as it works good, I have no bias to what brand it is.
-It has to have:
-At least a 15" display. More than a 1280x800 res would be super uber, but if I must have that res, then so be it
-At least 2.0GHz processor--I don't really care what brand it is. IT MUST BE DUAL CORE (so the total speed is 4.0GHz or higher)
-At least 160GB of HD space. It's ok if 2 HD's add up to this amount or higher, but I'd prefer 1 HD to lower weight and HD switching hassles &stuff.
-Vista Home Premium (or Ultimate, but Premium costs less).
-At least 2GB of RAM. Vista is memory hungry so more would be great but 2GB is fine for me.
-512MB GRAPHICS CARD!!!!! I REALLY want to run H2V good, so I'll need a power-packed graphics card. Discrete/dedicated graphics would rock. nVidia is preferred (infact I REALLY would love nvidia) but it's not... completely... required.
-Webcam would be cool
-Must have 802.11 "g" internet
-At least 8X DVD+/-R/RW drive (must be at least 8x and must be able to read/write DVDs) (label burning capability is a plus if it's not more than like $50)
-High battery life (cuz of the graphics card and CPU) so it must be at the very least, MORE than 6 cell. So like 12 cell or high capacity 8 cell is cool.

It must also be less than around 11 pounds. For anyone who knows computers of these specs, please post em. I haven't found one computer yet than can fulfill all of these needs. Thanks!

Uh, didn't really look through the whole thing, but it has mostly what you want. And it has an optional 512mb graphics card.

Yeah I've seen that one before of course... I'll keep it in mind, but it's got an obscenely large price tag IMO.

Yeah it does, but with the specs you're looking for, I don't know of many notebooks that won't cost that much.

I got mine from dell and it can run halo 2 vista on medium-high settings

Specs

- Daul 1.8 Processors ; AMD Turion x2
-1.5 GB of ram (originally came with 2 512 cards so i bough 1 with 1 gig, can be upgraded to 2 gigs)

-ATI Radeon X1400 256 MB

- Model: Insperon

- 240 GB of memory

-Windows Vista Home Premium

That all coasted up to $1200

That seems ok but 256MB of video memory won't cut it for me.

I don't think you absolutely need to have a 512. A 256 is pretty damn good.

As long as you can get a radeonx1000 or geforce 7000 series or higher 256 is perfectly fine

512 really doesnt do much more if you check the benchmarks on sites like gamespot 256 and 512 perform pretty close but yeah 512 is better by like 10-15 frames but if its in sli thats a different story lol

but you wont find a 512 equipped comp for under about 1500 but if you really need a gamer laptop there is always alienware or dell ofcourse alienware has sli notebooks but those are expensive

personally these are some brands i try to avoid HP Compaq Gateway Sony Apple

and i recomend acer toshiba samsung if you can find em and asus

EDIT: this is everything you requested and its about 1700 take a look

*Angels come from above and sing hallelujah*

...

 THAT is my new notebook. Thank you kind sir, you are my hero. My one and only complaint is that the battery life seems short. I might have to purchase like a 12-cell one or something. But other than that, this has gotta be one of the best buys I've ever seen. I'm definitely bookmarking that! :D

BTW I wouldn't really want an SLI notebook, Vista can't use SLI yet and they're probably not going to release a driver for it for a while.

Wow lol k

EDIT: Yeah you're right, I just saw that on battery power on my current notebook gets about 2 1/2 hours of juice. And I have a worse processor (and it's just core duo not core 2 duo and core 2 duo saves more battery life), more ram, and a way crappier graphics card.
