Can i Run Vista Now

I posted my specs before but you guys said i would need another gig of ram for vista. but i heard someone making it so you'll be able to play on xp, so do you think i still need a gig of ram if i use it on xp, also i no that its not final thats its coming to xp. Heres my specs again

intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
2.79GHz, 1.00 of Ram

ATi Radeon 9550 / X1050 series [ SDM - HS73

I have 1 GB of RAM and it H2V works just fine for me.

kl thanks does anyone no anything more about the thing so you can play halo 2 on xp like when its coming out and does it have a good chance of working.

Halo 2 does not work on XP. Only on Vista. I tried installing it on one of my XP machines and the error message "This program is not supported by this operating system." Pops up. I hear there is someone out there trying to make some sort of modification program to make it run on XP, but as far as I know, it's still a working progress.

As for the graphics, it seems to vary. I will say that it lists the minimum and recommended requirements on the back of the box, but it's mainly up to you to test it and see. One site claimed that it would absolutely not work with an ATI Radeon 9600 at all, yet I installed it on my laptop and it seems to work okay. Obviously it can't run at full spec, but it still works just fine.

i agree, yes you can run vista but you might want more ram.. halo 2 will have to run on lowest settings too but you'll be strait.

Tyrant, a company by the name of Falling Leaf Studios is creating a XP application so both Shadowrun and Halo 2 will work on XP. Of course it will cost you extra money. I'm guessing $60.

I'd just buy Vista in that case too. Most likely, that's going to be emulation software, and if we have learned anything about emulation software from the 360, it doesn't always work.

XP is going to be discontinued Jan 2008, so it makes sense just to upgrade, either by buying a new PC, or by installing the software.

thats what i've been telling everyone. xp is the old windows me, its old news. vista isnt new because it sucks, they paid alot of money and time to make it way better and more stable than xp... just upgrade and all your problems will go away. or go buy another cassette player and jam out with milly vanilly...

Eh, I run H2V on an AMD Dual Core 4600+ with 1Gb RAM and a Geforce 7600 and it works fine on High.

johnnyblaz20 is smart...everyone thinks vista has a bunch of problems...vista is the best thing that has ever happened to my computer (even though i cant run halo 2 [stupid 1.6 GH processor])

Hey Samusaaron3, for what purpose? it seems like playing a dvd in a cd player, maybe somebody can figure out how to make it work but it just wont be the same. the falling leaf program is novelty at best... maybe it'll be cool to have it but i'd never use it... if you buy an xbox 360 game would you want to play it in an old xbox? no... even if it would work its old technology and thats what vista is.. new technology..... i hate ragging but i think this is a worthless thread.. its halo 2 "vista", not halo 2 " i wanna play it on xp"....

I would just buy Vista, instead of worrying about a patch or some emulation software. If you buy it and install it on your XP computer, you can install it so that it has 2 operating systems, (like my comp), and be able to load which operating system you want.

And, if it cost $5-10 for Shadowrun and Halo 2, will it work for others? In tha case, you may be shelling out $5-10 extra for a patch that in the long run may just be cheaper to buy Vista.

Halo 2 can run perfectly fine on XP, Mircrosoft made it only work on Vista to use it as a marketing tool.

As for your analogy, its flawed. It is not like running an xbox 360 game on an xbox, because the hardware is not affected. The reason the xbox 360 is superior is due to its hardware, not the software. You could have an exceptional computer running XP, and a horrible one running Vista. Halo 2 can run great on XP, it just needs a little coaxing. You will see when the software comes out.

According to falling leaf, you would only need to buy patches when they need to update their libraries, not for each new game.

Also, Vista is pretty expensive - it would take a lot of games to make it worth your while to buy it.

Wrong. There's the Live gaming service, which only works on Vista. And there's others but I can't think of them. Trust me though, it was not just for extra money.
